This new standard has been designed to help the automotive industry define a structured process to ensure that cybersecurity is incorporated into the design of road vehicles, including systems, software components and connections to any external equipment or network.

The standard specifies the requirements for managing the risks from cybersecurity as concerns the design, development, manufacture, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of electrical and electronic (E/E) systems for road vehicles.
